Just how would Dr. Patrick Njoroge’s singlehood at 54 turn out to be rocket science to anyone?

HOW
Could a rather senseless and unwarranted debate dominate social media platforms, mainstream media and even bar talk revolving around revelations that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee for CBK governor – internationally famed economist Dr Patrick Ngugi Njoroge – is single at 54 by choice, for the better part of a week?

HOW
Could our respected members of the August house – most of who were struggling to stay awake when the technocrat was carefully and skillfully explaining how he would deliver in his new job – suddenly jolt from their slumber when Dr Njoroge said he is single and spend so much time scrutinizing the marital status of a guy of international repute on matters economics? Aren’t our waheshimiwa suffering from a terribly dangerous syndrome of getting every priority wrong?

HOW
On earth does such a demanding job like that of a being a CBK governor relate to a person’s marital status? Don’t we have enough examples of single men who have delivered greatly? Is Dr Chris Kirubi or Botswana President Khama Ian Khama married? Are Kenyans paying the guy an obscene salary to go marry women and sire children?

HOW
Blind is a big section of our populace not to realize the manner in which a rapidly increasing number of brilliant minds –most of who are prominent personalities – are suddenly being crippled by the trauma of unending divorce cases? Do I need to mention names here?

HOW
Rogue have our media houses become to give such a petty issue unnecessary airtime? Could they not dwell more on the guy’s past performance, reputation and abilities? Or are economic issues so complex to our journalists like they are to the lay men?

HOW
Then do Kenyans claim to be religious yet the scriptures are very clear that celibacy is better for a man who wishes to dedicate his life to a special cause like church or public service? Was Jesus – world’s greatest revolutionary whose movement is alive to date – not single? Didn’t St. Paul explain enough on the same in 1Corinthians 7:32-40? Is the Pope married?

AND HOW
The hell do we expect to achieve Vision 2030 when our perceptions and rationale are guided by unnecessarily rigid ideals which can only make sense to a pre Roman Empire time man?
Can’t we get facts right and use the right criterion and formulae for vetting public office candidates?

Just asking.
